Gautham Menon’s romantic movie ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is not only striking a chord or two in the hearts of today’s youth but it has also touched the heart of the ‘director of directors’, the veteran K. Balachander. The man behind the immortal love stories like ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’ and ‘Apoorva Ragangal’ was mighty overwhelmed when he saw ‘VTV’ a few days ago.

KB immediately shot off a letter to Goutham Menon comparing him with the legends like S.S. Vasan, A.V. Meiyappa Chettiar, Bharathiraja and Mani Ratnam and said that like those, Menon too ‘believed and invested’ in the intelligence of the audience.
After watching VTV, KB reportedly felt that Tamil cinema has got a new icon in the form of ‘Goutham Vasudev Menon’ and describes that VTV has everything one looks for in a movie: ‘a heart warming story, heart wrenching film, stunning visuals, soaring musical hits, compellingly straight forward and uncomplicatedly honest’.
Getting a bit persona, the veteran director writes in his letter that “This 80 years old man was pondering on the way back home after watching the film if he could tell his 75 years old wife ‘I LOVE YOU’ to see whether she can still blush’.
